BACKGROUND
Phoenix Chinese Week is a non-profit organization that strives to promote understanding and appreciation of Chinese culture. Each year Phoenix Chinese Week sponsors an Art Contest to give students the opportunity to express their knowledge of 5,000 years of Chinese culture through art.
2013 CONTEST THEME
“What I Know About Chinese Culture”. All entries must be related to Chinese culture. Contestants may choose any aspect of Chinese culture as their subject, such as: festivals, the zodiac, history, art, or calligraphy.

ELIGIBILITY
Kindergarten through 12th grade students. Categories: K-2nd grade 3-5th grade 6-8th grade 9th-12th grade
ACCEPTED SIZE & MEDIA
Entries must be completed on 11”x17” paper. Accepted Medias: crayon, markers, paint or colored pencils, or paper cutting. No collages, raised art or framed artwork allowed. Entries not meeting these requirements will not be judged. (Please include on back of art work 1-2 sentences to describe the art and theme).
RULES & REGULATIONS
1) One entry per contestant. 2) Entries must be original and completed by the participant without assistance. The judges’ decisions are final. All entries become the property of Phoenix Chinese Week and may be used for displays and in Phoenix Chinese Week publications.
JUDGING CRITERIA
Judged equally on originality, artistic creativity, and theme.
ENTRY DEADLINE
All entries must be received by Thursday November 15, 2012. No extensions.
ARTWORK SUBMISSION
Due to artwork size, artwork and completed form may be hand-delivered. Dropoff date: Thursday November 15, 2012 between 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Location: Solid Rock Silver & Gold Art Gallery, 154 West Main Street, Mesa, AZ 85201. PRIZES
Medals, awards and certificates will be presented to the 1st-3rd place winners in each category.
AWARDS PRESENTATION
Awards Presentation: Winners will be notified prior to the Awards Ceremony and are strongly encouraged to be present to receive their awards at 12 noon on Sunday, February 10, 2013 at the Phoenix Chinese Week Festival at the location of Chinese Cultural Center stage (668 North 44th Street, Phoenix). Winning entries will be displayed at the Phoenix Chinese Week event.
RETURN OF ARTWORK
Non-winning artwork may be picked up at the Phoenix Chinese Week information booth during the Phoenix Chinese Week Cultural Festival, February 8th, 9th, and 10th. The Art Contest Committee is not responsible for artwork not claimed by 2 pm, Sunday, February 10th. No artwork will be returned by mail.
