Each year, Phoenix Chinese Week sponsors an Art Contest to give students the opportunity to express their knowledge of the 5,000 years of Chinese culture through art.

Please read the Art Contest information below and download the Art Contest Form. You will need to print out the part of the form: "2024 Phoenix Chinese Week Art Contest Entry Form", fill out the required information, and attach to the back of your artwork entry.

  • ENTRY DEADLINE

    All art entries (digital & original) must be received by Saturday Dec. 23rd 2023 by 5pm.  No extensions. 

  • FESTIVAL DETAILS

  • THEME

    Contestants may choose any aspect of Chinese history or culture as their subject, such as:  history, architecture, music, martial arts, cuisine, visual arts, festivals, religion, the zodiac, landscape, people, etc. All submissions must be related to Chinese arts & culture. 

  • ELIGIBILITY

    Arizona students ages Kindergarten through 12th grade may enter.

    Grade categories: 

    K-2nd 

    3-5th

    6-8th 

    9th-12th 

  • ACCEPTED SIZE & MEDIA 

    Artwork entries must be no smaller than 11” x 14” and no larger than 12” x 18”. Accepted Media: pencil, crayons, markers, acrylic paint, oil paint, water color, colored pencils, pastels, ink or paper cutting. 

    No collages, raised art, or framed artwork allowed.  

  • JUDGING CRITERIA

    Judged equally on originality, artistic creativity and theme. The judges’ decisions are final.

  • RULES & REGULATIONS

    1) One entry per contestant.

    2) Entries must be original and completed by the participant without assistance.

    3) All entries become the property of Phoenix Chinese Week and may be used for displays and in Phoenix Chinese Week publications. 

  • ARTWORK SUBMISSION

    Must email your name, age & art image (must be high-resolution, 300DPI) ​​before the deadline of Dec. 23rd to: phoenixchineseweekart

  • PRIZES

    Awards will be presented to the 1st-3rd place winners in each category, as well as honorable mention at the Awards Ceremony at 12pm on Sunday, February 4th, 2024, at the Phoenix Chinese Week Festival located at Steele Indian School Park.

    Winners will be notified via email prior to the Awards Ceremony.

  • AWARDS PRESENTATION

    Winners will be notified by email prior to the Awards Ceremony and are strongly encouraged to be present to receive their awards at 12:00 Noon on Sunday, February 4, 2024, at the Phoenix Chinese Week Festival at Steele Indian School Park (300 E. Indian School Rd. Phoenix, 85012).  Winning (1st~3rd Place) artwork images will be displayed in the Art & Photo Gallery at the Phoenix Chinese Week event, and in the 2024 souvenir book. 

  • RETURN OF ARTWORK

    All original artwork may be picked up at the Phoenix Chinese Week information booth during the Phoenix Chinese Week Culture & Cuisine Festival, February 3rd and 4th 2024. The Art Contest Committee is not responsible for artwork not claimed by 2 pm, Sunday, February 4th. No artwork will be returned by mail.
